Atlantic City Trip Review

My friend Jo somehow won a free room for a night at Harrah's in Atlantic City so she decided to do a girl's night...yay! I'm not sure how she won it, I think she just filled out her info for one of their rewards cards. Anyway, 5 of us drove down Tuesday night for our little mini vacation and it was....interesting.

A word of advice, if you plan on going clubbing in AC, don't go on a Tuesday. We learned that the hard way. The website for Harrah's showed that they have a nightclub around their pool which looked really fun, we failed to notice that the nightclub isn't open on Tuesdays. And what made it worse was that there was a group of seniors from the College of NJ there on a trip who had I guess reserved or rented out the pool/nightclub for the night. We basic stood their like losers wishing we could go in but it was a private event so the security said we couldn't. After a while we noticed a lot of people leaving so we convinced ourselves that the party sucked anyway.

After finding out that the buffet was $30 per person, we ate the cheapest thing we could which was pizza and subs. Fun times. Then we went back to our room and called a bunch of hotels nearby (Borgata, Trump Marina, etc.) to see if they had nightclubs open and they all said the same thing...No. A few of them told us that our best bet was to go on the main strip and find a bar to go to because most of the clubs are closed on Tuesdays. After sitting around feeling defeated for deciding to come on the ONE night where nothing was open we were finally able to find out that Dusk at Caesar's was open. I think someone from one of the other hotels told us that was the only place she knew of.

Now that we weren't feeling so pathetic we mixed some drinks then headed out on our merry way. Did I mention the fact that it was about 40 some odd degrees and drizzling? No, well it was. It had stopped raining by the time we left but it was still pretty chilly out and our slutty club dresses didn't help the situation. Once we actually got to Caesar's we were still a little nervous about how the night would go because it was pretty deserted but once we actually went down into the club we were pleasantly surprised.

The place was packed (probably because it was the only thing open so people didn't have much of a choice as to where to go) and the music was really good....for the first few hours anyway. The DJ was great, the only problem was that he didn't play the songs long enough which I hate. He would put on a good song then only let it play for like 30 seconds or something ridiculous like that. The really good news is that there were cuties galore in there. And I exchanged numbers with one cutie who just so happens to be from Philly....how convenient!

Anyway, once the music got sucky we went back to our room and went to sleep. Then in the morning these simple broads wanted to go to the pool. *sigh* They set the alarm for 7am when the pool opened so we could go before we left. I kept my ass in bed, fuck a pool. Especially at that time. On a side note, you need ID to get into the pool at Harrah's because it has a bar and kids aren't allowed.

All in all, we ended up having a really nice time. Next time we go to AC we're definitely trying to stay at Caesar's but the Borgata is still my main hotel goal. Someday....

My Dad is so Weird/Mother's Day Tidbit

My dad called me today to ask about mother's day. First thing he says is: "How did you enjoy mother's day yesterday?" Maybe I have a child somewhere that only he knows about. Just kidding, I get why he asked that...sort of. Then he told me he went to put flowers on my mom's grave and said: "Yeah, she was smiling and all that good stuff." Really daddy? Hahaha, he cracks me up. Anyway, I'm glad to know he was thinking about her after just coming back from visiting his new wife in KY (long story). That's all for now, much shorter than my usual blog post but whatever. Still studying for finals, only one more then I'm officially done for the semester...yay!

Random Fact About Me

I have never in my 24 years of life worn any type of fake hair. No braids, no weaves, no tracks, no wigs, no extensions, NADA. For no particular reason, I just never wanted to. When I was a kid and all my friends at school would get their little micro-braids and what not my mom would ask if I wanted them too but I always said no. Again, no real reason why, it just wasn't my thing.

It almost seems a little strange because I'm pretty sure every black girl I've ever known (or at least the majority of them) have worn some type of weave in their life. Sometimes I think it's almost expected because it's the "norm." I don't quite remember but I'm pretty sure I've been asked if my hair is really MY hair in the past and if people didn't flat out ask I'm sure there was some speculation. It's a natural girl thing I think, to look at another girl's hair and wonder "is that all hers?"

Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a little (or a lot) of  fake hair here and there, it's just not my thing. I've never done it and I probably never will but who knows, never say never I guess. And in case you were wondering, my hair now is about medium length I guess, almost bra strap length (not shoulder straps, the one that goes across your back). I don't know that length makes a difference though because I've seen girls with long hair still wearing extensions for thickness or whatever. I don't know why some people do or don't wear weaves. To be honest I don't really care that much. Whatever floats your boat.

Anyway like I said, random.

Grad School...yay or nay?

This decision has been weighing on my mind lately. To be honest I never even considered the possibility of grad school until they handed out some survey in class about a new DNP program for nursing. I'm not graduating from school until next year but I'm so indecisive about everything I really need to start thinking seriously about this now.

First off, I don't NEED a masters degree. Once I graduate I'll have my BSN then I can take the NCLEX, get my RN license and be an official nurse. As an RN I can get a job and work anywhere and be totally fine. Bottom line is, a masters degree isn't necessary for me to have the career I want. Also, going for my masters means at least 2 more years of school, maybe 3 depending on the school and the type of program. I've already been in school much longer than I should have or wanted to be. With setbacks, being out of school for a period of time, and having to retake classes, I'm graduating way after I was supposed to. Because of this I really, REALLY don't want be in school any longer than absolutely necessary. Another thing is that more school also means more money, which means more student loans, which means more debt after I graduate. I'm already cringing at the thought of all the money I'm gonna owe when I finally do get out of this place. *sigh*

On the up side, with a masters degree I would be able to get a higher level job which means better pay and more authority. Nothing wrong with that. And of course, I'll be able to have more letters at the end of my name...Hahaha. Wow, way more negatives than positives for the masters degree so it's looking like a no but I'm still not entirely sure. Add to the negatives the fact that I would have to take that stupid GRE just to get into grad school...ugh.

Anyway, like I said I have no idea what I'm gonna do about this. I still have some time to decide and with school at least you know it's always there. But I think it would be harder to go back if I were out for a while, unlike if I just went straight through. *sigh* So many decisions.

Just an Update...

I haven't posted anything in a while so here's a little mini-post about what's been going on. This weekend I went home for my friend's birthday party and that was pretty fun. I went on a nice little trip to the mall and got a few dresses which is always good. Then on Saturday the birthday girl and I went to see Jordin Sparks perform at the Wolf Den of the Mohegan Sun casino for FREE! It was fun and she was great. The funniest thing was this older woman who fell on her ass because she was so drunk...smh. She tapped my friend and I to say she liked the video we were taking and all we could smell was alcohol. A mess! Then the real kicker for the evening was my period unexpectedly showing up. I was really shocked until I realized a new month had started so technically it was right on schedule. Too bad I had to throw away a perfectly good pair of underwear and spent most of the night having my friend check my ass for blood stains *sigh*. Girls, you know what I'm talking about and guys, sorry if that's tmi. Anyway, now I'm back at school and thank God it's the last day of classes. Although I feel it's completely ridiculous that we should actually have to go to class today but whatever. I don't know how much I'll be posting in the next couple of weeks with finals and everything but we'll see. DUECES!!!

Jordin during the show.
